Preparation for filming

We have decided upon the location and the actors for our filming.
The location will be at my house, in Great Chesterford and the actors will be Mikki Gant and James Wells.
We will be filming on the 02/02/2011

Storyboarding

Today we created more storyboards for the additional part to our film. We plan to put the extra scenes the beginning of our film.

Not enough gore

After a few days of editing Sophie and I have realised that we do not have enough gore in our film. At the moment it is hard to see if the film is of the thriller genre or the horror genre. We have decided that we need to have another location and another actor.

Uploading footage

Today we uploaded our footage from the SD card onto the mac. From what we have seen it looks like everything has gone to plan and we are really pleased with the footage we have. I am particularly pleased with the variety of shots we have, although some seens are quite dark in the interior location scenes. We will have to improve the lighting during editing.

Post Filming

We have finished our filming, and hopefully we have all teh footage that we need. We were very pleased with the footage we have from the little we've seen and the speed in which we filmed.
Tomorrow we will upload teh footage onto one of the macs.

Day of filming!

The locations are sorted, the camera is charging and we have the actress ready and waiting! However, hours before filming, Lauren has suddenly been taken ill. It is now lunch and we need to find a new actor to be the clown, with teh correct costume, by 16.00!

Preparation for filming

The new filming arrangements are:

Girl - Robyn Green
Clown - Lauren Geddes
Exterior Location - Water Lane, Stansted
Interior Location - West Road, Stansted

Solution

Luckily one of sophie's friends has stepped in and offered to help with the location. We now have an interior set that is closer to Water Lane, which is much more convenient.

Another problem!

The interior location is no longer available for us to use.
The actor is still confirmed but another house is now needed.

Problem!

The clown mask will not arrive in time for our filming date. I have decided to make the mask myself to ensure that we will have it for filming. It also turned out to be much cheaper than buying the mask online.

Here is the finished mask

Filming date

The date that we have decided that we will film date will be on 18/01/2011

Props

Today I researched, found and ordered a clown mask from ebay for our two minute opening of a horror film.

This is the knife that we will be using:

Locations

Exterior Location - Water Lane, Stansted

Interior Location - Burnells Way, Stansted

Actors/ Actresses

Girl - Robyn Green
Clown - Lauren Geddes

Preparation for FILMING

When we had finished storyboarding our ideas we decided to ask friends about locations and actors/ actresses.
During early planning we had discussed the exterior scene and chose Water Lane in Stansted. In our later conversation we thought an interior location near Water Lane would allow us to film the scenes and keep the continuity of the fading light.
Once one of the actors confirmed they also allowed us to use their house for filming. All we needed now was an actor to play the clown. After a discussion about costume, we decided the clown need to be tall, to be able to lean over the victim.

Storyboard!

Here are the storyboards for our film:

Narrative!

The storyboard and narrative

Today Sophie and I, together, created both the storyboard and the narrative structure for our film.

Next...

Now Sophie and I need to create both the narrative and the storyboard!

Reflecting on the results

After looking at the results of the questionnaire, we have decided what to include in the two minute opening and how this will appeal to the mainstream audience we are targetting.

Name:

Age:

What is your favourite genre of film?

Do you enjoy horror films? And what do you enjoy about them?

How often do you watch them?

What do you look for in a horror film?

What is your favourite type character in a horror film?

What would be your ideal opening to a horror film be?

These questions will help us when we develop our narrative structure and storyboard.

Audience Research

We decided that we were going to conduct some audience research by creating a questionnaire to identify what an audience wants from a horror film. This will help Sophie and I when we come to create both the storyboard and teh narrative for our two minute film opening.

The questions will include:

What do you enjoy about horror films?
What do you look for in a horror film?
What's your favourite type of character in a horror film?
What would your ideal opening to a horror film be?

We focussed on the teenage audience as they are the mainstream horror audience.

Opening Sequence

As the task is to create a two minute opening sequence to a fiction film, we will be looking at various films to see how titles are used. The first film we looked at was Juno. We then took a film in our own genre and compared.

Horror

A horror film creates an unsettling image for the audience, playing on the emotions: fear and disgust. They, mainly, feature a supernatural force and therefore the genre overlaps with fantasy, science-fiction and thriller. A Horror plays with the audience's mind, their hidden fears and the fear of the unknown. Modern horror films focus on explict gore and material to make the viewer jump.
Early horror films are based on classic literature, focusing on the gothic and horror genre. My first film examples are these types of films.
